About Betty Warden
Betty owns and operates Bold Journey Works, Inc.
I began my career as a licensed clinical social worker, focusing on individuals with complex PTSD, depression, grief, substance abuse disorders, and anxiety disorders. I have extensive experience working with first responders, active duty service members, and veterans. I have worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 2 decades and in that time, received extensive training and certification in many modalities including EMDR, PACT, ACT, Family Systems, and DBT. Driven by my passion for holistic healing, I expanded my practice to include psychedelic-assisted therapy, seeing it as a powerful tool for unlocking deep-seated emotional barriers.
I have undergone extensive training with renowned psychedelic therapy programs and was part of the first training cohort in Oregon to become psilocybin facilitators. I hold a certification in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy as well. My practice emphasizes safety, empathy, and integration, providing clients with a grounding framework to process and make meaning of their experiences.
My approach blends traditional psychological practices with mindfulness techniques, creating a nurturing space where clients can explore the mind-body connection. I am also an active researcher, collaborating with academic institutions on studies examining the efficacy of psychedelic treatments for trauma and treatment-resistant depression. I lead group integration circles and offers training workshops for other clinicians entering the field of psychedelic therapy. I believe in the transformative potential of these therapies when paired with comprehensive mental health support. Compassionate and deeply committed, I continue to advocate for safe, accessible psychedelic treatments and work tirelessly to reduce the stigma surrounding these emerging therapies.
I have had the distinct honor of working with many diverse groups of people, including first-time families, the elderly, individuals suffering from severe and persistent mental illness, those living with chronic medical conditions, and people struggling with drug and alcohol dependence. I have also supported trauma survivors, couples, first responders, soldiers, and their families.
I believe that being a therapist places me in a position of great privilege. I have the opportunity to witness pain and growth, struggle and perseverance, as well as to see people transform their stories toward health and wholeness.
Before establishing my private practice in 2007, I worked in community-based mental health services, providing support to first-time parents facing various risk factors. I then transitioned to hospital-based social services, where I served as a discharge planner before moving into Behavioral Health, working with individuals dealing with a range of mental health issues. My private practice has allowed me to continue developing and refining my skills. From 2008 to 2013, I had the privilege of working as a subcontractor for the Department of Defense, providing mental health services to soldiers and their families as a Military Family Life Consultant (MFLC). This role took me to U.S. military installations in both Europe and the United States, where I worked directly with service members and their families. This experience has greatly enriched my work as a clinician and remains one of the highlights of my career.
To stay current in my field, I participate in continuing education programs each year. I also engage in several consultation groups, where I collaborate with colleagues to discuss new approaches, challenges, and how to incorporate new insights into our work with clients. I am a certified PACT Level II couples counselor, applying the principles of the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy. Additionally, I am an EMDR Level II practitioner and have extensive experience working with individuals facing substance use and abuse issues.
